The epidemic is heating up in Japan.
The number of daily confirmed cases in Tokyo is expected to exceed 5,000 today, jumping three times from 3,000 to 5,000 in just a week, NHK reported.
At a meeting of experts in Tokyo today, experts expressed a strong sense of crisis, saying, “An unprecedented outbreak of infection is spreading.”
In addition, the Japanese government held a COVID-19 response headquarters meeting at the prime minister’s official residence today and confirmed that eight prefectures — Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Shizuoka, Aichi, Shiga and Kumamoto — will be included in the “key measures to prevent the spread” from Wednesday to Wednesday.
“Priority measures to prevent the spread”, second only to the state of emergency, was expanded to include a total of 13 prefectures and counties into the alert.
Tokyo only crossed the 3,000 daily confirmed cases threshold for the first time on July 28, and then the 4,000 mark on July 31.
At present, the number of confirmed cases in a single day is 4,166. If the number exceeds 5,000 today, the number will increase by nearly 1,000.
